Local Scholarships 

South East High School is pleased to provide a school-based scholarships to this year’s graduating seniors. The South East High School PTSA Scholarship is now open. There will be FIVE $750 scholarships awarded this year. You must be a member of the PTSA to apply. The application and scholarship requirements are written below.

 

 

 

1. To qualify you must be planning to attend full time an accredited college, university, vocational school or community college.

2. Complete and submit your typed SEHS Scholarship application. Answers must be long enough to adequately answer the questions. Tell the Scholarship Committee members about yourselves, your community service involvement and volunteerism, leadership, future goals, etc. Be sure to put your name in the header so it appears on every page of your application. Handwrite your name on your activities list.

3. Submit your Personal Statement. This is optional but strongly recommended.

4. Submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher, school administrator and/or from a community leader, work supervisor, religious leader, etc. If you are asking a teacher or a counselor, only ask those who have already written you a letter. There is no time left for a teacher or counselor to write one from scratch.

5. Scholarships will be awarded based on community service, demonstration of leadership, integrity, potential to achieve career goals and academic performance.

6. All applications and attachments must be received in the College Center by 2:30 pm on Monday, May 25th . Incomplete applications will not be considered.

7. Winners will be announced at the Senior Awards Night celebration on May 31st

HSF/Toyota Motors Scholarship Program

Program Description: Through our longstanding partnership with Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. this scholarship is open to outstanding entering freshmen students at selected universities and in selected majors. The award amount is $5,000. Eligibility Requirements: Be of Hispanic heritage. Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident with a permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551 (not expired). Be an entering full-time Freshman during the upcoming adademic year at one of the following selected universities: University of Southern California, University of Texas at Austin, Cal Poly Pomona, Texas A&M University, University of Texas at San Antonio, or University of California-Los Angeles. Be pursuing a degree in one of the following areas: Business Administration, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, International Relations, Marketing, or Mechanical Engineering. Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent).

FOR AVIATION/AEROSPACE STUDIES

(Application deadline is July 15, this year)

The Aero Club of Southern California, in order to assist air-minded young people in pursuit of their education, is offering annual scholarship grants to:

  1. High school students who plan to pursue classroom studies in aviation or aerospace, ($2,500 grants)

  2. Students currently pursuing aviation/aerospace classroom studies in a College, University or nationally accredited technical school ($5,000 grants).

Applicants must demonstrate intent to pursue a career in aviation or aerospace, must have now and maintain a 3.0 GPA and must be full time students now and when the scholarship will be used.

To apply, students should submit a typewritten statement that includes all of the following in separate paragraphs.

Aviation/Aerospace career goals

Current and future Aviation/Aerospace educational plans

Work experience

Achievements related to Aviation/Aerospace fields

Details of initiative and leadership skills

Other interests and accomplishments

Two letters of recommendation, typed, (non family members)

Certified school records

 Ramon C. Cortines Scholarship Fund.

The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce and L.A. Cash for College will be awarding a $500 scholarship to one graduating high school senior with a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in public service or education

The deadline for submission is May 18, 2019.

 

 

 

Bill Coggins Scholarship

This scholarship awards those who show strong leadership capabilities.

Requirements:

- Minimum of a 2.8 GPA

- Planning to attend college next year

Association of Educational Office Employees

The Association of Educational Office Employees of the Los Angeles Unified School District recognizes the continuing need for well-trained and qualified students who want to go to college to pursue their career in an occupation of their choice.  In order to increase interest in their professional goals, AEOE will award ninety-two (92) $3,000 scholarships to Los Angeles Unified School District high school seniors and five (5) $3,000 adult school students obtaining their high school diploma.

Associated Administrators of Los Angeles

Annually, the Associated Administrators of Los Angeles (AALA) recognizes and celebrates graduating students from the Los Angeles Unified School District for their outstanding academic achievement, school/community service, and need. Each student selected receives a $2,000 financial stipend to assist with his/her educational pursuits.This year, AALA’s goal is to award 35 scholarships to comprehensive high school seniors, options school seniors and community adult school graduating students.  The scholarship awards banquet is held each year in May.

CGCS-Bernard Harris

Math and Science Scholarship Program

The CGCS-Bernard Harris Scholarship Program was established to encourage minority students to pursue college degrees and careers in science, technology, engineering and math.

This spring, $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to two African American and two Hispanic students currently completing their senior year of high school in a member district of the Council of the Great City Schools. (students in Toronto are not eligible)

 

Requirements:

- Pursuing a major in the STEM field

- 3.0 unweighted GPA

- Planning to attend a 4-year institution

- must attend a public schoool

2019 Commission for South Gate Youth Scholarship 

The South Gate Community Scholarship Fund is an extension of the non-profit Commission for South Gate Youth established in 1989. The Fund was established for the purpose of providing scholarships to high school seniors, who are residents of the City of South Gate, in pursuit of post-secondary education and training. 

  • resident of South Gate

  • attending an undergraduate course in an accredited two or four year college

Woodcraft Rangers Calvin J. Mueller Scholarship

The scholarship will be awarded once a year on a competitive basis to a high school senior who has demonstrated a sound commitment to advancing his/her education to a vocational, community college, or university level, a passion for community service and volunteerism, and the proven ability to effect positive change as a leader in extra-curricular activities. 

Requirements:

  • be a high school senior

  • 15 hours of community service

  • have received endorsement from one faculty member from the student's school

Award: $1000

Deadline: April 12, 2019
